Tell town officials what you think about their performance. Have you ever offered them praise when they deserve it? Perhaps this is a good time to do it. Often it is easy to forget that these folks are volunteering their time and putting their considerable gifts at the disposal of the community. There endearingly modest people working at Town Hall. Consider offering them your support. As for dealing with would-be autocrats perhaps  a strong sense of the absurd, the ability to laugh and a willingness to be part of the solution might come in handy . 

The town is short in volunteers. Can you help? Might you visit a part of town you do not usually frequent? How about finding out what that part of town needs the most?

In spite of all that threatens its stability, we  have a community that remains remarkably accepting of  newcomers. Civility, respect, and a tiny dash of humility still count hereabouts. Let's work on that, shall we?
